Avondlezing door Prof.dr. A.M. Brouwer georganiseerd door de Chemische Kring Midden Nederland.

Samenvatting
In de lezing wordt uiteen gezet hoe licht moleculen in beweging kan brengen.
Het pionierswerk van de recente Nobelprijswinnaars aan moleculaire machines komt daarbij natuurlijk aan de orde, maar ook ons eigen onderzoek aan moleculaire pendels. Verder zullen we moleculen leren kennen die ons door hun fluorescentie laten weten of ze vrij zijn om te bewegen of niet. Daarmee maken we baanbrekend natuurkundig onderzoek aan wrijving mogelijk.

Ik zal ook wat didactische elementen in de lezing stoppen want chemie met licht is niet triviaal. Wel kleurrijk!

Current Research Targets

  • Rotaxane motor molecules, the molecular--level working mechanisms of light-induced molecular motion.
  • Application of optical spectroscopy and photochemistry to organocatalysis
  • Solar Fuels: catalytic water oxidation and proton reduction by means of time-resolved spectroscopy and microscopy.
  • Development and application of luminescent probe molecules
  • Nanophotochemistry: pattern-formation by short-wavelength UV radiation in thin films
